Doin Time by bornsoulless
Doin Time
9"x 11" pen and highlighter on computer paper

I learned two things from doing this picture. 1. Highlighter doesn't scan worth a damn (hence the terrible photo). 2. Dudes in jail don't care for homoerotic portraits of themselves (regardless of how funny they are).

Lil Oscar by bornsoulless
Lil Oscar
22"x 30" Tombow cinnamon pencil on arches watercolor paper with Burnt sienna wash

I was recently introduced to this style of pencil drawing by my professor, Chin-Cheng Hung. Honestly, the best figure artist I've ever seen and a no bullshit teacher. Anyway, I wanted to revisit this style so I surprised my friend Oscar with a portrait of his son, Oscar JR. Luckily for me he loved it and didn't think I was some creepy dude crushing on his kid.

Dude, I love your style!
I really dig animation too and I'm very heavily considering pursuing it as a career as well.
I'm in my senior year of high school and I'm looking at schools and such, but the only places that offer a degree in 2-D Animation are art schools and those are expensive...
Anyway, I don't know if me watching you and favoriting your stuff might make you curious to look on my page, but I haven't really uploaded anything that is serious stuff, so just a disclaimer so that if you looked you wouldn't think, "Man, this kid sucks." There is nothing on my page I would put into a serious portfolio, it's just doodle junk.

Thanks man. I'm going for 2-D as well so I know what you're saying about the schools. The only advice I can give about going into animation is to have a good cosigner for all the loans you're going to have to take out and to draw everything around you all the time.

I'll make sure of that.
Also, people have always told me that drawing from life is pretty much the best practice you can get.
My art teacher told me, "Draw what you see, not what you know you see."
That is the most important thing he has ever taught me, because it is stupidly true and makes anything I draw from life look much more correct in proportion.
I don't know if anyone has told you anything like that, but it is super useful.
Good luck in your endeavors.
I eagerly await your next deviation.
